On 11th February 2023, I, Steph, the hands behind Jensons, became a cat mum to two precious, mischievous balls of floof, Jenson and Buttons. This marked the start of a new chapter, transforming our family of two into a family of four. Our roost had two new rulers, and naturally, we were demoted to human butlers.
They say nothing is more spoilt than fur children living with a dual-income duo in their 30s, and this was certainly the case for these two little pickles. After the magical kitten bubble of cuddles and playtime, Jenson and Buttons were old enough to start their adventures outdoors. This meant one thing: investing in some good quality cat collars.
After searching both online and in various stores, I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. I needed comfort, durability, safety, and simplicity, and I wanted earthy tones, something to complement my beautiful kitties' markings, not detract from them. This struggle sparked the question that started Jensons: 'Could I create my own?'
The adventure began, and samples started rolling in. I experimented with various materials: webbing, faux leather, and then stumbled upon cork. Initially, I had doubts, would it be too rigid, too heavy? I ordered a sample and wow… It was perfect. Eco-friendly, water-resistant, and hypoallergenic, cork ticked all the boxes. Being a vegan material was just the cherry on top because we love all our furry, feathered, and scaly friends.
After lots of practice and testing, I finally had a winning collar. I created a little Etsy shop to test the waters. The lovely feedback from early customers excited me. I knew other cat parents would love our collars; they just had to know they existed.
